CNYHSA and HAC-CNY announced the grant award following a meeting on December 20, 2010 of a Joint Task Force on Health Planning, which is represented by Board members and community representatives from each organization. The $1 million grant comes from the New York State Health Care Efficiency and Affordability Law for New Yorkers Grant Program (HEAL NY). It provides funds over two years to build the infrastructure for a strengthened health planning model and to conduct three health planning related studies.

The state HEAL award is also being supplemented by a $115,000 grant from the Community Health Foundation of Western and Central New York (CHFWCNY) and a $35,000 contribution from Excellus BlueCross Blue Shield to underwrite the costs of the organizational re-structuring process.

According to CNYHSA Executive Director Tim Bobo, officials of CNYHSA and HAC-CNY have been discussing the potential for a collaborative approach over the past year. The goal was to capitalize on each agency’s roles and skills to sustain a viable health planning function for Central New York. (click for press release, Joint Task Force members).
