Network Transition Plan

Emergency Funding Proposal Unsuccessful.
Network and CNYHSA staff have developed a proposal for emergency funding that would sustain the Network. No funding has resulted from this effort to date.

Retaining Network Identity. Because CNYHSA continues to have an extensive HIV/AIDS Initiative it will retain the Network name, which has wide recognition in the region. In the event that alternative funding is secured after December, the key Network functions could be revived – probably on a part-time basis.

Care Coordination Committee Will Continue to Meet. Plans have been completed for the Care Coordination Committee to continue meeting independently on a monthly basis in Syracuse.  Kelley Flood (floodk@upstate.edu) will continue for the moment as Co-Chair.

Friends Dinners to Continue. PLWHA volunteer leadership has expressed interest in continuing monthly Friends Dinners in Syracuse (last Thursdays) and Utica (last Wednesdays). CHAS (Caring Hands AIDS Support) is currently working on setting a monthly date for Friends Dinners in Watertown. For more information, e-mail:  syracusefriendsdinner@gmail.com

Lutheran Churches Provide PLWHA Meeting Venues. First English Lutheran Church (501 James Street, Syracuse) will continue hosting Syracuse dinners; it also offers opportunities for PLWHA to access the computer lab, food and clothing pantries. Our Saviour Lutheran Church (1640 Genesee Street, Utica) will continue hosting dinners in Utica and has expressed interest in providing meeting space for lunches or other PLWHA meetings.

Consumer Advisory Committee Interested in Continuing. The Living Room has offered space for CAC meetings. Principal contacts are Hope Lowe (hdlowe66@gmail.com), Lewis Watts (lwatts@swccsyr.org) and Paul Carr (jpeciii@gmail.com).

Network Contact and Mailing Lists to be Maintained by CNYHSA. Anyone who requests removal from these lists will, of course, be removed.  Persons interested in being added to these lists may contact CNYHSA at any time.

AIDS Awareness Day in Albany. CNYHSA has learned that Housing Works is willing to arrange for a bus from Syracuse to Albany to permit local PLWHA participation in New York AIDS Coalition’s annual AIDS Awareness Day in Albany in late February 2011.

Network Recommendation for SASDC Representation.  The Network’s recommendation to SASDC is that PLWHA should be selected from major population centers in CNY (Syracuse/Onondaga County, Utica/Rome/Herkimer, Watertown, Binghamton/Tri-County region ) rather than from the region as a whole.

Community Awareness Observances. HONY (Heart of New York) Community Health Educators is willing to assume responsibility for planning and conducting community awareness observances, e.g., the AIDS International Candlelight Memorial, National HIV Testing Day and World AIDS Day. Discussions will continue at HONY’s quarterly meeting on January 18, 2011. Jeanette Shanley at REACH CNY (jshanley@reachcny.org) is the contact.
