PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES
- Needs Assessment: Identifying service needs and priorities for developing and expanding the HIV/AIDS service continuum & prevention/education resoruces; reviewing and periodically revising an HIV/AIDS Services Delivery Plan & Resource Directory describing the service continuum and reflecting regional priorities for resource and program development.
- Information Sharing: Gathering, processing and distributing information about HIV/AIDS and promoting linkages and information sharing among programs and services responding or capable of responding to community needs.
- Resource Development: Monitoring and announcing HIV/AIDS funding opportunities; identifying eligible funding applicants; promoting resource and program development for high priority needs and special needs populations; providing first level review of local funding proposals submit-ted to the AIDS Institute.
- Public Policy: Inform State and Federal public officials about the impact of HIV/AIDS in Central New York and advocating for legislation and funding support for HIV/AIDS resources and programs.
- Community Awareness: Plan and conduct observances and awareness events for World AIDS Day (12/1), AIDS Awareness Day, National HIV Testing Day (6/27), Latino HIV Awareness Day (10/15), Black HIV Awareness Day (2/7); schedule legislative receptions and other opportunities to communicate HIV/AIDS concerns to the community and to public officials; and identify and promote outreach to populations at risk or with special needs relating to HIV/AIDS services.
- Consumer Involvement: Conduct outreach and skills building activities to promote and support Network participation by persons living with HIV/AIDS. Activities include PLWHIV/AIDS recruitment; identifying and addressing information and training needs; conducting PLWHIV/AIDS Forums to identify service needs and priorities; promoting Consumer/Provider dialogue with Case Management and Support Service providers; and strengthening HIV/AIDS public policy advocacy.
- Case Management Coordination: Coordinate, plan and monitor HIV/AIDS case management and support service functions to address specific issues through case conferencing and to identify systemic issues requiring collaborative action; promote dialogue with non HIV/AIDS service providers to increase access to non HIV/AIDS resources; and identify and address case management information and training needs.
- Children's Issues: Promote increased awareness and community response to the broad spectrum impact of HIV/AIDS on children and their families; raise funds, plan and conduct family support programs including Family Zoo Day (May), summer camps for children in HIV positive families (June-August), and Winter Holiday Party (December).
- HIV/AIDS Housing: Convene HIV/AIDS and other housing/supportive services providers to exchange information relating to housing resources, housing needs, and changing needs for assistance; and to identify strategies for promoting comprehensive and responsive policies for meeting the needs of clients with HIV/AIDS.
- Informational Programming for Service Providers: Share program information and HIV/AIDS updates among service providers and commu-nity based resources at regular meetings of Network Committees; provide information on HIV/AIDS epidemiology and clinical treatment; pro-mote dialogue with individuals living with HIV/AIDS.
- HIV/AIDS Prevention/Education: Promote liaison between and among HIV/AIDS service providers and prevention/education resources serving Central New York to increase community awareness; encourage programmatic linkages to identify and respond to community needs in HIV/AIDS prevention and education.
- Conferences, Mini Conferences and Special Programs: Conduct regional conferences for consumers and providers to share information on HIV/AIDS care, research, and policies; conduct local mini conferences to provide targeted information or service continuum issues and promote consumer/provider dialogue relating to medical care and treatment; conduct special workshops, training and skills building sessions to strengthen Network participation and build community awareness of the epidemic.
