CNYHSA is pleased to announce that we have begun implementation of CNY Connec+ions, an AIDS Community Information Outreach Project from the National Library of Medicine (NLM). The project improves the access and use of HIV/AIDS health information for persons infected, affected or at-risk of contracting HIV/AIDS. CNY Connec+ions is an initiative of the Central New York HIV Care Network.
CNY Connec+ions includes four components:
- This dedicated user-friendly website with links to HIV/AIDS health information resources, including NLM and local resources.
- CNY Connec+ions Live: weekly moderated telephone conferencing and six web conferencing sessions for Persons with AIDS (PWAs). The discussion topics include emerging needs and trends, experiences of PWAs, validate information or dispel myths related to prevention, transmission and treatment, and increase access to HIV/AIDS health information.
- A Facebook page with videos and event photos to facilitate social connections and interaction among PWAs living in the 14-county region. CNY Connec+ions Facebook page will enable PWAs to stay abreast of the latest news, information and events in CNY and the Southern Tier.
- "How to" access training for PWAs, HIV/AIDS service providers and the general community. The trainings will include how to utilize the website, CNY Connec+ions Live, and Facebook.
CNY Connec+ions promotes awareness of resources, access to user-friendly information, and to connect those who are infected, affected or at-risk in Central New York. Many of the counties in the Network's region are rural, which often limits PWAs access to support groups, Network meetings, educational session and events. CNY Connec+ions is exploring if social networking encourages dialogue and open information sharing within the HIV/AIDS community. CNYHSA is excited to be able to provide a confidential, anonymous and "no-travel required" mechanism for people to connect and learn.
